About The Position

Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state. Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as a Health & Safety Inspector. In this position, you will play a key role in supporting Health & Safety, Construction Management, and Project Management teams by monitoring and verifying contractor compliance with regulatory and project‑specific requirements through field inspections, audits, and reporting, while escalating critical risks as needed. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in construction health and safety systems, hazard identification, regulatory compliance, and contractor oversight, using a coaching‑based approach to influence safe work practices and foster a positive safety culture. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in protecting people, strengthening safety performance, and contributing to the safe and successful delivery of major infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Health & Safety designation or certification (CSP, CRSP, CMIOSH, or NCSO) or a diploma/certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, with 5–10 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety related position.
  • CMSTQ CORE Requirements (PCST/CSTS and On-Boarding/Orientation) PCST—Required for Pipelines (includes WHMIS) CSTS—Required for Facilities (includes WHMIS).
  • Job-Specific Requirements (as required by regulation or hazard, not position specific—e.g. ATV Training, Fall Protection Training, Confined Space Training, etc.)
  • Trench Box safety Training.
  • Ground Disturbance for Supervisors Level 2.
  • Experience in supporting field-based resource activities.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft office suite.
  • Comfortable with uncertainty, conflicting directions, and multiple demands.
  • A track record of delivering high‑quality work, managing competing priorities, and supporting key business processes or operational functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and levels across the organization.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly, respectfully, and professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Use various tools in the Inspection, Measurement, and Monitoring (IMM) plan to measure adherence by General Construction Contractors (GCC) and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractors, and direct to Major Projects Contractors.
  • Ensure safeguards are in place and documents results in daily inspection reports and preventative action reports (PAR).
  • Participate in the daily work planning meeting with the GCC/EPC’s and Major Projects leaders.
  • Maintain regular communication with other Health & Safety Inspectors, Health & Safety Lead, and the Health & Safety Manager.
  • As requested, participate in supporting investigation of significant incidents, near misses, or other events associated with their assigned spread.
  • Ensure reports, inspections, observations and incidents are input into project tools promptly.
  • Participate in planning, progress, and safety meetings with the GCC/EPC’s.
  • Ensure follow up on corrective actions from inspections, PARS, observations, focus inspections audits, or incident/near-miss investigations are completed.
  • Participate in scheduled & unscheduled regulatory site inspections as required or directed.
  • Participate in the emergency response drills held on their assigned spread.
  • Competent & knowledgeable in using HS work tools: TAS, ISN, SharePoint, PARs, Enablon/CAPA item tracker etc.
  • Visibly and positively promotes Stop Work Authority, Life Saving Rules (LSRs) and other Major Projects H&S safety tools with GCCs/EPCs and direct-to-Major Projects contractors.
  • Participate and support scheduled & unscheduled regulatory site inspections as required or directed.
  • Notifies H&S Lead/Construction Manager of external inspections.
  • Other H&S duties as assigned by the Health & Safety Lead.
