About The Position

The employee will lead Quality Assurance (QA) Technicians, monitor QA testing and the reporting of results. The employee will perform Process Control inspections in assigned work areas, monitor manufacturing processes, document results, and report deviations from standards or procedures. This role verifies products meet Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Critical Quality Points (CQP’s) and serves as the primary contact for jar breaks during operations to verify procedures and adequate cleanup. The Quality Control Lead is assigned to work in multiple areas based on the production schedule and as directed by their Manager, completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision. The role requires monitoring adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, ensuring Food Safety and Quality requirements are met, and learning manufacturing procedures and specifications. The employee will document and report deviations, evaluate incoming product and product after cutting for physical defects, and perform checks of blanchers to monitor product quality and setup. Additionally, the role involves monitoring check weights and spice addition, monitoring pasteurization and verifying pasteurizer setups, product temperatures, belt speeds, and HACCP limits. Conducting pre-op inspections of production lines, verifying proper procedures for disposition of product involved in jar breaks and adequate cleanup, and filling in for quality control technicians in all areas are key responsibilities. This includes routine testing of various samples, participating in continuous improvement initiatives, following procedures for placing non-conforming product or equipment on hold, and completing necessary paperwork. The employee must work effectively within a team, keep the work area clean, and follow safety rules and company policies. Other duties include participating in training, meetings, committees, and project teams, and performing other duties as directed by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school graduate plus additional training needed.
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English.
  • Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions.
  • Ability to follow directions and complete special tasks or projects as instructed by management.
  • Computer skills, typing skills as well as good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations.
  • Willingness to be trained extensively through any schooling or course deemed necessary by upper management.
  • Familiarity with applicable laws; Federal, State, EEOC, ESC, FDA, EPA, OSHA, USDA, etc.
  • Ability to manage and get along with a diverse group of employees as well as coordinate job functions in other areas.
  • Ability to make prompt, competent decisions and utilize authority wisely.
  • Ability to maintain discipline, morale and good team work at a high level/standard.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Quality Assurance (QA) Technicians.

  • Perform checks of blanchers to monitor product quality and blancher set up.
  • Monitor check weights and spice addition to jars/pouches.
  • Monitor pasteurization and verify pasteurizer set ups, product temperatures, belt speeds and HACCP limits.
  • Conduct pre-op inspections of production lines.
  • Verify proper procedures are followed for disposition of product involved in jar breaks and adequate clean up of the production line.
  • Fill in as needed for quality control technicians and be able to perform duties in all areas of quality control.
  • Complete routine testing on samples of syrups and brines, raw ingredients, in-process samples, and finished product.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives of the manufacturing process.
  • Follow established procedures for placing non-conforming product or equipment on hold (red carding).
  • Complete necessary paperwork for quality control and operations based on scheduled production.
  • Schedule QA Technicians to assure all areas of manufacturing are effectively covered by Quality Assurance.
  • Coordinate and train QA Tech’s.
  • Ensure that QA Tech’s comply with the “Standard Operating Procedures” (SOP’s).
  • Report any major deviations in manufacturing or QA testing results to the appropriate management.
  • Ensure that all “Food Safety and Quality Critical Control Points,” are in compliance/met.
  • Review QA and production records.
  • Conduct Micro Swabbing and Pre-Op inspections as directed by the QA manager.
  • Provide an open dialect between QA and the manufacturing group.
  • Complete special projects or tasks as directed by QC Manager.
  • Keep work area clean and neat.
  • Follow safety rules and company policies.
  • Participate in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.
  • Receive written and verbal instructions on job tasks and perform other duties as directed by Supervisor.
