About The Position

Alliant Energy is seeking a Quality Control Tech, which may be filled at the Apprentice or Journey level depending on qualifications. This role is responsible for performing various chemical and operational analyses required in an electric generating station, including coal, water, heat, vibration, and oil. The position also involves preparing reports, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The role supports the Burlington Generating Station in Burlington, IA.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Completion of the Quality Control Technician Apprenticeship and pass the final position qualification examination
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess skills in basic mathematics, electricity, chemistry, and can demonstrate the ability to perform work requirements on a computer
  • Interest and aptitude for analytical work
  • Knowledge of plant systems
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
  • Must be able to work at high elevations
  • Must be able to follow procedures
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performing lab work, tests, and analysis relating to the maintenance and operation of an electric generating station.
  • Assisting in preparing reports and maintaining records, completing paperwork, station statistics, and computer entry.
  • Completing and reporting environmental reports, including State and Federal reports for CEM equipment.
  • Performing tests and analysis as required by environmental regulations.
  • Understanding and following environmental and regulatory rules.
  • Operating, calibrating, and maintaining CEMS equipment.
  • Maintaining, balancing, and calibrating test equipment, pressure gauges, and other related equipment.
  • Handling, unloading, and working with chemicals in a safe manner.
  • Collecting data, completing, and generating GADS Reports and other related reports.
  • Following procedures.
  • Maintaining supplies and ordering materials.
  • Leading and training others in the same or lower classification in safe work practices.
  • Conducting coal fitness testing.
  • Conducting vibration analysis.
  • Maintaining and repairing instrumentation, testing, and analyzing equipment.
  • Maintaining and repairing laboratory facilities, test equipment, water treatment equipment, lab equipment, and other related equipment.
  • Maintaining plant water quality and analysis requirements.
  • Calibrating and maintaining sample systems, demineralizer systems, and other related water treatment systems and equipment.
  • Performing various levels of plumbing.
  • Performing other duties which are similar, related, or incidental to this position and assisting in other activities that do not require skills of a higher classification.
