This position is responsible for helping ensure reliable electricity service to our members by maintaining both overhead and underground electrical systems.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or G.E.D.
  • Must have completed a recognized apprenticeship program for Journey Lineman or satisfactorily completed a groundman training program or its equivalent for an Apprentice Lineman.
  • Must maintain a valid Colorado Class A Commercial driver license.
  • General knowledge of the electric utility industry, cooperative principles and member service procedures.
  • Must be proficient at operating a computer, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, staking sheets, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic mathematical ability such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, fractions and decimals and the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages and ratios.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw solid conclusions.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs underground and overhead electrical lines, including digging pole and anchor holes, framing poles, setting poles and anchors, stringing, sagging, and connecting overhead conductor, opening and closing trenches, installing pad mount switchgear and underground conductor, locating underground cables, determining the locations of faults in damaged cables and performing related tasks on both energized and de-energized lines.
  • Maintains substations, underground and overhead distribution and transmission lines and other electrical system components by locating faults and repairing or replacing damaged conductor and replacing damaged transformers, breakers, regulators, insulators, meter loops, poles, switchgear and related equipment on both energized and de-energized lines.
  • Completes all necessary forms and reports required by the Association in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Is responsible for materials, supplies, equipment, tools, and vehicle assigned. Must maintain these items in good condition. Report when necessary maintenance or repairs are needed.
  • Understands and is able to follow Association operational procedures, safety manual, and policies.
  • Must have working knowledge of RUS Line Construction Specifications and understand how to apply this to daily tasks.
  • Frequently performs various duties related to member service, including reading meters, making service changes, disconnecting and connecting services, patrolling line, testing voltage and other related tasks.
  • Must be trained and be able to demonstrate proficiency in pole top, bucket and confined space rescue to established standards.
  • Must submit to random Drug and Alcohol testing per DOT regulations and pass required DOT Physicals at intervals prescribed by regulations.
  • Keeps current on changes in First Aid procedures, safety rules and regulations, and maintains an up-to-date First Aid and CPR card.
  • Must be available as assigned for on-call and standby duty and will respond according to established requirement during emergency situations.
