Quality Control Plant Assistant
About The Position
At American Gas Products, Inc., the Quality Control Plant Assistant supports daily operations at an industrial and packaged gas facility. The role helps ensure specialty gas products are filled, tested, labeled, inspected, documented, and prepared for customer delivery while maintaining quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. The position supports cylinder handling and filling, plant equipment checks and basic maintenance, inventory and documentation, and shipment preparation. The work takes place in an industrial plant, indoors and outdoors, with exposure to loud noise, temperature fluctuations, moving equipment, and pressurized cylinders. Personal protective equipment is required as applicable.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to lift 50–75 lbs. and occasionally lift 76–100+ pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work on feet for extended periods.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn equipment operation.
- Knowledge of pressurized gas cylinder handling.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong safety awareness.
- Teamwork and communication skills.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
Nice To Haves
- Forklift certification or experience preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Follow industrial gas safety protocols, including proper PPE, cylinder labeling, handling, and hazard communication.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, FDA, and company standards.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, leaks, damaged cylinders, or equipment abnormalities.
- Participate in safety meetings, emergency drills, audits, and ongoing training.
- Load, unload, move, and sort high-pressure gas cylinders using carts, forklifts, or pallet jacks.
- Assist with cylinder filling operations for gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, acetylene, CO₂, and specialty gases.
- Perform pre-fill and post-fill cylinder inspections, including checking valves, threads, labels, and hydrostatic test dates.
- Operate plant equipment, as trained and authorized, including compressors, pumps, manifolds, cryogenic fill stations, vaporizers, and gas mixing systems.
- Assist with routine equipment checks and basic maintenance activities.
- Monitor gauges, pressure levels, liquid levels, alarms, and instrumentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Tag, label, and barcode cylinders based on gas type and purity.
- Record cylinder movements in plant management systems or logbooks.
- Assist with stock counts and product rotation.
- Prepare cylinders for shipment by palletizing, shrink-wrapping, and verifying orders.
- Assist drivers and warehouse personnel with loading, unloading, and deliveries as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
