Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, Quality or a related field is required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is required.
• Computer proficiency with MS: Word, Excel, and Access are required.
• Excellent communication skills are required.
• Ability to handle multiple projects.
• Hands-on experience with SPC/SQC.
• Ability to work independently

Nice To Haves

• Prior leadership experience is strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of quality systems and lab experience are preferred.
• Knowledge of SAP, Proficy, Minitab is a plus
• Six Sigma training/certification, IATF, and ASQ certifications are also a plus

Responsibilities

• Supervise and promote safe practices and work environment in all activities. Conduct safety stand downs, as needed, and lead all safety improvements or issues with a sense of care and urgency for the lab personnel.
• Supervise the performance of lab operations/personnel to ensure the integrity of all tests, related equipment, and people resources. Serve as a central point of contact for other departments in the organization. Manage day-to-day activities for the lab based on company and departmental priorities. Treat issues related to customer needs or delivery with a sense of urgency while still maintaining a high standard of test accuracy and results. Demonstrate ability to coach, mentor, and help improve plant personnel skill sets. Set the example for attitude and professionalism. Participate with production engineers and area owners on troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities.
• Promote good team work skills within and outside of the Wickliffe, KY facility. Convey an attitude of service while holding individuals accountable for daily tasks. Help lead lab personnel to continuously challenge and improve departmental standards, skill sets, and the flow and efficiency of lab activities.
• Effectively communicate information to appropriate individuals in a timely manner. Create dialogue with plant personnel to draw ideas and viewpoints on activities. Actively listen to the needs of plant personnel and effectively communicate them to the quality manager and other departments, where appropriate. Collaborate with other lab sites within Ingevity and provide support as appropriate.
• Demonstrate basic skills in quality. These include, but are not limited to the following: Establishment and execution of laboratory techniques and equipment, development of testing and daily reports, understanding of data accuracy and precision, understanding of calibration procedures and gage reliability, inspection and containment of defective product, understanding of SPC, ability to write, revise, and issue SOPs, and internal concessions.
• Personally committed to actively improve personal performance and knowledge (via education, professional memberships, re-certification).
• Organize and direct the daily activities of the laboratory to ensure that analysis of product is timely and accurate, and that instrument integrity is maintained.
• Supervise laboratory personnel, conducting and overseeing quality assurance and quality control, and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting lab results.
• Plan and implement the overall laboratory policies, procedures, and services and provide input to strategic decisions that affect the production quality control.
• Establish accurate and achievable goals to quantify continuous improvement and monitor progress.
• Maintain and improve established SPC systems.
• Oversee annual MSA (Measurement System Analysis) for measurement instrumentation, systems and procedures.
• Maintain supply inventories and equipment for the laboratory.
• Responsibility for working with operations supervision to resolve quality issues arising from operations, coordinate with other departments, and use technical innovation, teamwork, and good listening skills to eliminate issues and implement positive improvements.
• Responsibility for assisting and overseeing adherence to the governing elements for plant quality registration, including participation in the plant internal auditing program as an ISO 9001/IATF 16949 lead auditor.
