About The Position

Marathon Petroleum is seeking a team-oriented Quality Assurance Inspector to support refinery QA/QC, MPLX logistics, damage prevention, and asset management systems at the St. Paul Park Refinery. This role coordinates field activities, verifies compliance with company and regulatory requirements, oversees welding and NDE quality, maintains inspection records, and supports the execution and closeout of maintenance, project, turnaround, pipeline, and contractor work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Possess current American Petroleum Institute API-510 and API-570 certifications required.
  • Possess current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or ability to obtain and maintain CWI certification within 12 months of hire required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be available to provide field, on-call, outage, project, and extended support as required, including nights and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional API or industry certifications relevant to fixed equipment, welding, or NDE preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in NDE methods, including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT).
  • Knowledge of Damage Prevention, one-call/811 processes, excavation monitoring, utility locating, pipeline right-of-way protection, and third-party contractor oversight preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in refining, petrochemical, or a related industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Mechanical Integrity quality requirements, evaluate equipment reliability risks, identify quality gaps, and drive corrective actions.
  • Serve as the site QA/QC coordinator for fixed equipment, tanks, civil, insulation, and coatings work, ensuring compliance with company requirements and industry standards.
  • Oversee welding quality for fabrication and repair activities by reviewing procedures, qualifications, materials, fit-up, welding execution, NDE, repairs, and final acceptance.
  • Determine and verify piping weld NDE requirements and support coating, hydrotest, materials verification, and related field quality activities.
  • Maintain inspection records, procedures, and quality documentation in MPC systems, including IDMS, iCON, iTAR, and related reliability databases.
  • Interpret and apply regulatory, industry, code, and RAGAGEP requirements; support audits, continuous improvement initiatives, and other assigned responsibilities.
  • Coordinate damage prevention activities, including utility locating, excavation oversight, line exposure, restoration, pipeline protection, and contractor coordination.
  • Represent Marathon in pipeline right-of-way activities; maintain pipeline markers, interpret underground drawings and maps, and resolve excavation, encroachment, restoration, and contractor-performance issues.
