About The Position

The Purchasing Agent/Buyer evaluates sales records and inventory levels for equipment and supplies, helps maintain adequate stock, and coordinates routine and non-routine orders from departmental requisitions. The role reviews market conditions and suppliers to support the hospital’s supply needs and cost objectives, and serves as a contact for resolving vendor issues. It also assists with receiving, inspecting, storing, and distributing materials, supplies, and equipment, while helping keep the storeroom organized and clean. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate sales records and check inventory levels for equipment and supplies.
• Assist with taking inventory and identifying outdated supplies with the inventory clerk.
• Coordinate orders for routine and non-routine supplies from departmental requisitions.
• Help ensure adequate inventory is available for interdepartmental orders.
• Review market variations that may affect supply availability or cost and identify suppliers that may offer lower costs.
• Evaluate suppliers based on quality, price, and availability.
• Act as a contact for problem solving between SMC and vendors.
• Assist with price competitiveness monitoring and purchase analysis.
• Review resources with the manager and independent vendors.
• Provide customer service supporting the goals and objectives of Shenandoah Medical Center.
• Assist with unpacking shipments and inspecting them for damage or defects.
• Help verify shipment accuracy, move goods to appropriate storage areas, and close out orders when appropriate.
• Assist with filling supply requisitions from stock and delivering supplies to departments.
• Prepare requisitions and assist with purchasing functions as needed.
• Help maintain storeroom cleanliness and organization, including arranging materials on shelves and verifying inventory counts.
• Restock shelves from available overstock locations.
• Organize products as deliveries arrive before they are received.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
