About The Position

Operate heavy construction equipment and/or tractor-trailer. This position can be assigned to any division as needed in Public Works. Field Work - 80% Operate tractor-trailer, heavy and light construction, or road maintenance equipment. Incumbent may have some lead worker responsibilities. Advanced level of heavy equipment operations. Must be able to perform work without direction or immediate supervision and follow detailed instruction to aid in the efficient and effective completion of the project or assigned task. Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner. Must be able to effectively communicate verbally through radio. When contact with the public is required, the employee must maintain a courteous, helpful attitude. Must be able to follow instructions from senior employees. Assist in operation of mining, crushing, and reclamation equipment. Administration - 10% Must have basic computer skills and the ability to report/record data as per departmental requirements. Ability to write, read and comprehend single instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public. Other Duties as Assigned - 10% Must be available to respond to and work extraordinary hours during emergency events. Assist with snow and other inclement weather operations. Requirements

High School Diploma/GED
Two years’ experience operating tractor-trailer and/or heavy equipment operation.
Valid Colorado Class A CDL license with tanker endorsement required or ability to obtain license within specified time frame agreed upon hire.
Ability to be MSHA certified.
Demonstrated proficiency in any two of the following pieces of equipment: tracked hydraulic excavator, snowplow, bulldozer, truck tractor with belly dump, front end loader, lowboy trailer, scraper, aggregate crushing plant, tandem axle truck, tanker, asphalt paver, backhoe (smaller than a John Deere 510), compaction equipment, skid steer, and motor grader.
Basic familiarity with and experience working with a variety of road construction, maintenance and repair equipment and materials.
Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
Ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other PPE as required by County and MSHA.
Must have or be able to obtain MSHA (new miner or experienced miner) certification within first 12 months of employment if not certified upon hire.
Effectively present information in one-on-one situation with the public, subordinates, and supervisors.
Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10’s and 100’s.
Perform these operations using units of money, weight, measurement, volume and distance.
Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and make appropriate day to day decisions without supervisory guidance to perform assigned tasks.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Candidate must pass a background check prior to employment start date.
Candidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date.
Candidate must pass a physical demands evaluation post offer screen compatible to this position.

Nice To Haves

Ability to obtain Colorado Class A CDL license with tanker endorsement within specified time frame agreed upon hire.
Ability to obtain MSHA certification (new miner or experienced miner) within first 12 months of employment if not certified upon hire.
On-the-job certification can be obtained for MSHA.
