About The Position

Operate construction equipment for routine maintenance and reconstruction tasks on county gravel roads in the Grover area. This position will report directly to Grover. The role involves significant fieldwork (80%) requiring proficiency in operating a motor grader and other heavy equipment for gravel road maintenance and snow removal. The employee must be able to perform work independently, follow detailed instructions, and communicate effectively verbally, especially with the public. A portion of the role (10%) involves administrative tasks such as basic computer skills for reporting data, organizing and scheduling work, and maintaining effective working relationships. The remaining 10% includes other duties as assigned, such as responding to emergency events, potential lead worker responsibilities, and assisting with snow and inclement weather operations. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two years of heavy or light equipment operation including motor grader experience.
  • Valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with tanker endorsement required or ability to obtain license within specified time frame agreed upon hire.
  • Ability to be MSHA certified.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one situations with the public, subordinates, and supervisors.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Candidate must pass a background check prior to employment start date.
  • Candidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date.
  • Candidate must pass a physical demands evaluation post offer screen compatible to this position.
