About The Position

Advanced supervisory work in coordinating and supervising a crew or a number of crews in performing maintenance/construction of County roads, bridges, rights-of-way, drainage systems and special projects. Work is performed under the direction of the Road & Bridge Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled employees.
  • Ability to maintain operating records and prepare concise and accurate reports.
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
  • Knowledge of the types of equipment, materials and methods used in various applications in roads, bridge and drainage maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of the various types of commercial mowing equipment used in different situations.
  • Knowledge of practices and techniques required for the safe operation of assigned equipment.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and effectively carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to read blueprints, construction plans and interpret data.
  • Ability to supervise.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Four (4) years of experience in construction and/or maintenance and repair of highways, including two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity, road operations maintenance and working with the general public.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's Class "B" License.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the work of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled employees engaged in paving/patching asphalt roads, installing and repairing drainage pipes, building/repairing head walls and catch basins, repairing dirt roads, shoulders, bridges and/or mowing rights-of-way.
  • Trains workers in proper work methods and safety procedures to be followed.
  • Inspects work areas to determine type of work required and the personnel, materials and equipment to be used.
  • Coordinates installation, repair and maintenance assignments with County departments and other agencies.
  • Controls the storage and issuance of major items.
  • Trains, counsels and evaluates the performance of subordinate employees.
  • Maintains proper documentation of all work completed through the use of a computerized maintenance management system, photographs and field books.
  • Responds courteously and effectively to complaints from the general public.
  • Performs related work as required.
