About The Position

Operate construction equipment for routine maintenance and reconstruction tasks on county gravel roads in the Grover area. This position will report directly to Grover. The role involves 80% field work, 10% administration, and 10% other duties as assigned. Field work includes operating heavy and light construction or road maintenance equipment, with a focus on motor graders and gravel road maintenance procedures. The employee must be able to perform work without direct supervision, follow detailed instructions, and communicate effectively via radio. When interacting with the public, a courteous and helpful attitude is required. Administrative duties include basic computer skills for reporting data, writing and comprehending correspondence, and organizing work. The employee must also establish and maintain effective working relationships. Other duties include being available for extraordinary hours during emergencies, potential lead worker responsibilities, and assisting with snow removal and other inclement weather operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two years of heavy or light equipment operation including motor grader experience.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one situations with the public, subordinates, and supervisors.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Candidate must pass a background check prior to employment start date.
  • Candidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date.
  • Candidate must pass a physical demands evaluation post offer screen compatible to this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced level of Gravel Road maintenance.
  • Valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with tanker endorsement required or ability to obtain license within specified time frame agreed upon hire.
  • Ability to be MSHA certified.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a motor grader and a wide variety of heavy equipment used in gravel road maintenance and snow removal.
