About The Position

The City of Placentia is recruiting for the position of Public Works Inspector. This role operates on a 4/10 work schedule, Monday through Thursday, from 7:15 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. The Public Works Department seeks a dedicated and hardworking individual to join the Inspection Division. The Public Works Inspector performs skilled and detailed inspections of engineering construction, maintenance, and public works projects. This includes interpreting plans and specifications to ensure compliance with contracts and work plans, preparing and recommending change orders and cost estimates, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, supplemented by college-level course work in construction and/or engineering; and three years of construction inspection experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Valid, current driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Inspects a variety of public works construction and maintenance projects, such as sidewalks, concrete structures, driveways, sewer mains, curbs and gutters, retaining walls, earthwork, street excavation and patchwork, and storm drains.
• Ensures that construction and materials comply with contract standards and specifications, state laws, local ordinances, and proper construction practices.
• Reviews plans, specifications, and sites for construction projects, and prepares cost estimates and bid specifications.
• Locates and checks installation of sewer connections and layout of new sewer lines; monitors air tests and conducts grading inspections.
• Coordinates and inspects traffic signal installations and contractor services.
• Meets and confers with representatives of utility companies, contractors, engineers, and other public agencies regarding construction plans and specifications.
• Issues encroachment, transportation, and grading permits and inspects progress on private development and public works projects.
• Updates and drafts city maps on a variety of different scales; updates sewer and storm drain locations for new developments, issues new addresses for new developments.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the City.
