About The Position

The Medical Library on the Downtown Campus seeks a Public Services Coordinator to provide excellent information and circulation assistance, interpret library policies and procedures, and support student success. This position manages the Medical Library during scheduled hours, supervising service points and building activities, including security and maintenance issues. In addition, this position performs closing duties, following established practices. This position reports to the Director, Medical Library.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and three years (3) experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with library usage, practices, and systems.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive applications, employee communication software (e.g. Slack, Zoom).
  • Ability to supervise, coach, evaluate employees.
  • Communicate effectively - in writing, verbally, and visually.
  • Demonstrates customer service principles, methods and practices.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the concepts of sustainable practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Provide circulation services, including check-out / check-in, loan policy, holds, billing policies.
  • Provide intermediate subject-based reference, information and referral services to users, combining a wide range of library and information sources in a variety of formats.
  • Display knowledge and understanding of all ASU Library services, including current initiatives such as map and geospatial services, maker services and data visualization.
  • As directed, support “Ask a Librarian” chat/email service for Shufeldt School user community.
  • Resolve and answer advanced requests, and interpret ASU Library / University policy for library users.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting of computer and printing needs.
  • Provide directional assistance for the Library and campus.
  • Process resource requests (e.g. holds, recalls).
  • Monitor materials on hold for library users.
  • Process home delivery requests.
  • Run and process system-generated material status lists.
  • Supervise service points and building activities, including security and maintenance issues.
  • Supervise staff and student workers, e.g., scheduling and assigning tasks.
  • Resolve conflicts and address emergencies, refer to manager or ASU Police as appropriate.
  • Perform closing duties, following established practices.
