About The Position

Day Kimball Health is hiring for a per diem Public Safety Officer to join our Public Safety department in Putnam, CT! This role provides Public Safety services for all persons on hospital premises and protects hospital property from loss due to fire, theft, or vandalism. The officer will also handle switchboard operator and dispatch duties, including answering and directing calls, operating the fire alarm panel and emergency paging systems, and directing emergency responders. The position requires interacting effectively with people under stressful circumstances and taking appropriate action in various emergency situations.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Must possess a valid state of CT Security Officer License (Guard Card).
  • Must complete within 30 days of employment, or verify current certification(s) in: Management of Aggressive Behavior Training, OCAT-Pepper “Gel” Training, Hospital Fire Brigade, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training, Lift and Assist, HealthStream online education - ongoing.
  • A minimum of 2 years security or relative experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts regular patrols of the hospital and grounds to ensure safety and security.
  • Maintains a visible presence in the Emergency Department.
  • Responds to calls for security and safety matters, helicopter landings, and emergency situations.
  • Conducts fire drills, fire extinguisher inspections, and exterior lighting surveys.
  • Operates the hospital switchboard, handling calls from the public, patients, physicians, and employees.
  • Operates the hospital fire alarm panel, emergency paging systems, and ResusciTeam emergency call system.
  • Makes overhead emergency announcements and directs emergency responders.
  • Interacts with Putnam dispatch for local Police or Fire Department response.
  • Reports issues with switchboard operation to the IT department and Security Supervisor.
  • Prepares daily shift logs and writes Public Safety Incident Reports.
  • Manages intake, return, and storage of Lost and Found items.
  • Secures sealed Patient Valuable Envelopes in the Public Safety Department safe.
  • Performs patient and visitor searches for contraband.
  • Monitors Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras for suspicious activity.
  • Enforces Hospital Access control through badge issuance and management.
  • Manufactures replacement Employee ID-Badges and new Volunteer ID-Badges.
  • Performs Key inventory checks and manages key issuance.
  • Responds to emergencies with crowd control, vehicle control, and hospital lockdown procedures.
  • Receives alarm notifications and contacts appropriate personnel.
  • Performs parking lot patrols and enforces parking policy.
  • Inputs vehicle details and parking sticker numbers into logs and the ID-Badge system.
