About The Position

Under the direction of the Public Safety Director, Manager, or Supervisor, the Public Safety Officer (PSO) performs assigned duties to protect VVGMC, its assets, business, and property, and to help ensure the safety of employees, patients, and visitors on hospital property. The PSO maintains professional working relationships with staff, patients, visitors, vendors, law enforcement, and local first responders, and maintains a positive, professional attitude and appearance while on duty and in uniform. The position also performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of computers and report writing is required.
• A BSIS Guard card is required upon hire.
• Complete Violence Prevention & De-Escalation training within 90 days of hire.
• Obtain BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• Complete HICS courses IS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within the first two years of employment.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least one year of experience as a security officer or security guard preferred.
• At least one year of hospital security experience preferred.
• Previous law enforcement or corrections experience, PC 832, and/or Administration of Justice degree or classes preferred.
• HazMat certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Protect VVGMC, its assets, business, and property.
• Help ensure the safety of employees, patients, and visitors on hospital property.
• Maintain professional working relationships with staff, patients, visitors, vendors, law enforcement, and local first responders.
• Conduct regular patrols of the property.
• Provide security intervention and observation postings in the Emergency Department and/or at the main entrance.
• Escort employees to vehicles.
• Respond to codes.
• Make citizen arrests when necessary.
• Complete daily and incident reports.
• Assist with emergency preparedness exercises.
• Conduct video surveillance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
