The Public Safety Officer provides security services with a customer-service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion even in challenging circumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, and training. This role inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor. The officer is expected to be alert, observant, and ethical, complying with and enforcing all safety and security rules and regulations, and maintaining Department uniform and equipment in good repair. Responsibilities include performing routine patrols, identifying vulnerabilities and hazards, conducting contraband searches, assisting individuals with information and directions, ensuring traffic control, and preventing, responding to, and investigating workplace violence. The officer will also respond to service calls, de-escalate situations, and utilize force when necessary. Planning, practicing, and responding to emergencies such as lost infants/children, fire, and active threats are key functions. The role involves investigating incidents, completing reports, addressing complaints, and cultivating partnerships with departments through liaison rounding. Security awareness education will be delivered to team members, and liaison with law enforcement and first responder agencies will be maintained. Coordination and monitoring of law enforcement prisoner patient guards are also part of the duties. The officer must maintain current training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, hemorrhage control, CPR, clinical restraints, and conducted energy weapon use, as well as any department-issued equipment. Assistance with exterior traffic and crowd control, including parking enforcement and vehicular assistance, is also required.
