The Public Safety Officer provides security services with a customer-service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion even in challenging circumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, and training. This role inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor. The officer is alert, observant, and ethical, complying with and enforcing all safety and security rules and regulations, and maintaining Department uniform and equipment in good repair. Responsibilities include performing routine patrols, identifying vulnerabilities and hazards, conducting contraband searches, assisting patients and visitors, ensuring traffic control, preventing and responding to workplace violence, and serving as a primary resource for de-escalation and use of force when necessary. The officer also performs key responsibilities to plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies, investigates incidents, addresses and escalates complaints, performs liaison rounding duties, and delivers security awareness education. Additionally, the role involves liaising with law enforcement agencies, coordinating prisoner guard duties, and maintaining current training standards in radio communications, de-escalation, CPR, and other required certifications. The officer also assists with exterior traffic and crowd control.
