About The Position

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a 3rd shift Public Safety Officer for its campus in Manchester, New Hampshire. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive safety and security services to the university's traditional residential campus and remote properties. Key duties include patrolling university grounds on foot, bicycle, or in a marked vehicle, responding to various calls for service such as escorts, medical emergencies, and behavioral health concerns, and conducting preliminary investigations. The officer will also manage traffic flow, enforce parking regulations, support special events, and collaborate with local emergency services. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Public Safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED as prescribed by the New Hampshire Department of Education
  • Two or more years of related experience
  • Eligible to work in the United States and be 21 years of age or older
  • Perform all of the essential functions of the job of a Public Safety Officer (with or without reasonable accommodation)
  • Must have and maintain a valid State of New Hampshire Driver's license with a good driving record
  • No criminal record or convictions for misdemeanors or felony offenses

Nice To Haves

  • Maintain certification in responding to emergencies and automated external defibrillator, CPR, Narcan, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed. Willing to train if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol of campus and remote properties
  • Take necessary action appropriate for the situation according to guidelines established by the University and departmental policies and procedures and assist victims of crimes with making a police complaint, as desired or required
  • Respond to and investigate instances involving assault, including sexual and aggravated assaults according to policies and guidelines
  • Collaborate with others to de-escalate situations in which victims/accused that are in emotional distress or agitated, implement strategies to reduce safety hazards, and eliminate opportunities for crime, disorder, and violations of the Student or Employee Handbook
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of incidents and submit complete, legible, and accurate reports promptly, concerning incidents, accidents, and calls for service
  • Provide escorts, monitor security cameras, and access control, and assist visitors.
  • Enforce traffic and parking regulations at properties and locations.
  • Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic, provide information and directions, arrange assistance for motorists with mechanical problems, issue parking tickets and arrange towing of vehicles if necessary
  • Assist university officials, law enforcement agencies, fire, and other public safety officials in the performance of those responsibilities which relate to the mission of the department in maintaining law, order and public safety on SNHU properties, will function as the University's first responder to criminal incidents, fires, medical emergencies, chemical spills, natural disasters and other emergencies on campus
  • Perform responsibilities consistent with the University's fire prevention and general safety program. These include inspection of fire safety equipment, conducting fire drills and other tasks related to the University's safety programs
  • Be the officer in charge in the absence of a shift supervisor and oversee daily operations
  • Understand the compliance points surrounding Title IX and the Clery act.
  • Issue SNHU Alerts in the event of an emergency
  • Complete a daily shift report to send to management upon completion of their shift
  • Work in all-weather elements, stand, and sit for extended periods of time including walking and climbing stairs.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Maintain certification in responding to emergencies and automated external defibrillator, CPR, Narcan, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed. Willing to train if needed.
  • Report to work or remain on duty during emergency closures or modified operations, such as severe weather.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
