Public Safety Officer I
About The Position
The Public Safety Officer I performs day-to-day duties related to protecting and securing Southcoast Health System and Southcoast Hospitals Group assets and information, and ensuring the safety of all people on hospital and system property. Under the general supervision of the Public Safety Operations Manager, Shift Supervisor, or designee, the officer proactively guards against fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized entry to hospital grounds and buildings while controlling access points. The position is based at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts, and is scheduled for 24 hours per week on the day shift, 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with weekend and holiday rotation.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Over three months up to and including one year of experience required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must have, or be able to obtain within six months to one year, a Massachusetts Firearms Identification Card and License to Carry Firearms (Pistol Permit).
- Complete Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) De-Escalation Training, OC Pepper (OCAT), Handcuffing (PATH), and Baton (PPBT) education and training within 120 days of hire.
- Obtain BLS, CPR, and First Responder certification within 120 days of hire.
- Must be eligible to obtain appointment as a special police officer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts under MGL c.22C Section 63, or as a New Bedford Special Police Officer under city/NBPD requirements.
- Obtain International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification within one year of appointment.
- Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19, or qualify for and sign a statement requesting exemption for medical or personal reasons.
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree preferred.
- Prior military, security, corrections, police, or relevant experience is a plus.
