About The Position

Montgomery College, Central Services location in Rockville, Maryland has an immediate need for two part-time Temporary Public Safety Dispatchers to work weekends. This is a non-bargaining, non-exempt, grade 15 position. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. The role involves receiving and responding to routine and emergency calls, determining the nature and location of incidents, dispatching appropriate personnel, researching and providing information, monitoring various emergency and security systems (including campus-wide security and fire systems, CCTV, and building/classroom access), serving as a point of contact between campus officers and external agencies during emergencies, and operating various communication and computer systems. The dispatcher must maintain a working knowledge of campus geography and surrounding areas to direct emergency personnel and will serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined by the Clery Act.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One-year work experience in customer service, call center, dispatch center, office environment or related experience.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and information exchanges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to operate computers, phones and work with Microsoft Office and other software databases.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with all levels in the College community.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and calmly responds to routine and emergency calls for police, fire, medical or other situations via telephone or radio.
  • Determine nature and location of incident, dispatch assign campus officers, local police, fire, medical personnel or other emergency units as necessary.
  • Researches and provides information for officers and callers.
  • Monitors local police/fire/EMS/ emergency and weather incidents.
  • Uses various systems to enter and retrieve information and document calls/incidents.
  • Monitors campus-wide security and fire systems, CCTV, and building/classroom access.
  • Serves as point of contact between campus officers and external agencies during emergencies.
  • Operates various radio, consoles, telephones and computer systems.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the campus geography and surrounding area to direct emergency personnel.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or appropriate
