About The Position

The City of Yuba City is currently recruiting for Public Safety Dispatcher (Entry-Level)! This is an entry to full journey level class for Public Safety Dispatcher. Employees in this class begin in a training program assigned to a trainer at all times. They are closely supervised while being instructed by trainer and performing job duties according to established policies and procedures. Until successful completion of training, employees at this level are not considered a fully trained dispatcher and are not given the same level of responsibilities and independence as the journey level dispatcher. Employees are considered to be in on-the-job training and are expected to obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to advance to journey level performance. As experience accrues, employees will perform with increasing independence and responsibility while being observed and reviewed by trainer. Employees are assigned to trainers and will work varying work schedules, weekends, nights and holidays. Upon completion of formal training the employee will perform the full range of duties and responsibilities. Employees at this level receive only general direction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedure and policies within the work unit. Employees allocated to this job class must work independently and possess the ability to prioritize assignments and information in an effective and productive manner. Employees must successfully pass training for CPR, EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatching), and the POST Dispatch Academy. Employees are assigned to varying work schedules, nights, weekends, holidays and overtime when required to keep the 24 hour dispatch center fully staffed.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Possession of, or successful completion within twelve (12) months of appointment, a valid Basic Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate issued by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of, or successful completion within twelve (12) months of appointment, a valid Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certificate issued by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED), to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Must successfully pass training for CPR, EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatching), and the POST Dispatch Academy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the full range of duties and responsibilities upon completion of formal training.
  • Work independently and possess the ability to prioritize assignments and information in an effective and productive manner.
  • Keep the 24-hour dispatch center fully staffed.
