About The Position

The Walters Art Museum is seeking a Public Programs Educator to facilitate programs for multigenerational audiences through a variety of programming experiences. This part-time position will also support staffing for public programs, including talks, lectures, performances, workshops, family days, and conversations. As a member of the Learning, Experience, and Community Engagement (LECE) Division, the educator will report directly to the Senior Manager of Public Programs with assistance from the Assistant Manager of Multigenerational Programs. LECE’s work is grounded in the museum’s commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Able to work a Thursday–Saturday schedule, including some evenings and Sundays as needed.
  • At least 1 year of experience teaching art to youth in informal or formal educational settings.
  • At least 1 year of customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults of diverse ages and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills.
  • Proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as digital communication platforms such as Google Meet.
  • Demonstrated interest in art, museums, and bringing people together in-person.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children, families, and adults, and engaging diverse museum audiences with art.

Nice To Haves

  • B.A. in Education, Art Education, or Art preferred.
  • At least 1 year of coursework or professional experience in art-making, community programming, studio art, art history, art education, or museum education preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively develop, prepare for, and facilitate art activities at the museum for visitors of all ages, including drop-in art activities on weekends and at festivals.
  • Support public programs by staffing registration and assisting with wayfinding, question-and-answer sessions, and event logistics as needed.
  • Maintain records related to public programs, including updating contact lists and tracking attendance and visitor feedback that will inform program improvements.
  • Actively contribute to the work of the Public Programs unit and Learning, Experience, and Community Engagement division as a whole.
  • Support outreach and promotion for the Learning, Experience, and Community Engagement department.
  • Participate in trainings and other professional development opportunities to learn about Walters exhibitions and collections; strengthen skills in museum education, audience engagement, and lesson planning; and explore a wide array of topics needed to engage multigenerational audiences.
  • All other duties as assigned.
