About The Position

Bestica is hiring for a Public Health Technician/Epidemiologist to provide their services at Wright Patterson Air Force Base located in Dayton, OH. The role involves providing subject matter expertise to the USAFSAM Department of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM/FE), Aerospace Medicine Studies and Analysis Division (FES), Aerospace Medicine Studies and Analysis Support Branch (FESS) Operational Consult team. This team is designed to offer a responsive and thorough approach to complex operational inquiries from the field, deliver operational expertise for active surveillance capabilities, maintain and enhance relevant data repositories, and support studies and analysis requirements, including technical consultation, data analytics, and data management. USAFSAM/FESS is responsible for the infrastructure and execution of studies and analysis projects, encompassing project management, tracking of funding and timelines, acquisition/contracting support, guidance on research/study experimental design, data analytics, operational issues, support for protocol submissions and approvals by IRBs and IACUCs, consultation on epidemiological practices and methods, and assistance with writing and editing manuscripts, reports, and research articles. This position requires expertise within the FESS branch to aid USAFSAM in providing consultation for studies and analyses projects, and to offer expert consultation and assistance to MAJCOM Aerospace Medicine teams and/or base-level safety officers, flight surgeons, and physiologists investigating physiologic events and other human factors issues.

Requirements

Master’s degree in public health or related discipline.
At least 5 years’ experience working in a public health, community health, or aerospace medicine clinic.
Strong knowledge of epidemiology.
Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the public health field.
Experience developing, administering and analyzing surveys and/or questionnaires for research and/or occupational health questions.
A minimum of 5 years of experience with epidemiology in a healthcare or military environment.
Ability to design, formulate, conduct, and lead data analysis of operational studies on health surveillance data/health records/other relevant military records and risk reduction of negative health outcomes, readiness, or duty restrictions affecting the USAF total force population.
Capacity to use and/or learn new analytical technology tools such as Envision, Tableau, Python, R, SAS Viya, or Qualtrics.
Technical writing and presentation skills, including the ability to conduct scientific literature reviews, and prepare technical reports, white papers, publications, memorandums, presentations, and other products.
Ability to apply and provide all information, in a timely manner, related to obtaining access to databases and data required to perform duties.
Professionalism, detail orientation, excellent communication skills, and fluency in English.
Ability to thrive in a team environment, yet able to complete assigned tasks independently or with minimal guidance from team leads.

A Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place with their company based on the potential access to confidential, proprietary, and/or sensitive information. The NDA shall be provided to the Government Program Manager by start of performance.

Responsibilities

Providing epidemiological expertise for the Operational Consultation Support team and supporting the technical performance of the USAFSAM Studies and Analysis Portfolio.
Providing assistance in producing timely and accurate routine and ad hoc reports, supporting special study methods, and assigned protocols.
Assisting in the execution of prioritized scientific investigations with 711 HPW researchers as well as base-level, MAJCOM and Air Force Level personnel in determining mitigation, hand-off or other disposition of identified operational health issues among AF members requiring research support.
Assisting in designing, formulating, conducting, and leading data analysis of health surveillance data/health records, military personnel, records, military operational records, and other relevant military records at the individual, unit, and total force populations to provide human performance and operational surveillance support.
Collecting data from various databases, pursuant to agreements with database owners.
Providing conference support assistance by active participation in professional conferences, preparation of posters and presentations, and publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts, to support distribution of study products.
Acquiring data access permissions necessary to perform stated tasks.
Performing a full range of science and technology support in various research functions, including data collection, program analysis, monitoring activities, and the preparation of reports and summaries.
Planning, organizing, and coordinating activities of functional specialists including scientist, engineering, contracting, program control, test and logistics.
Using qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques to collect and compile data on program operation effectiveness and cost-benefit using prescribed methodologies, in conjunction with other team members and researchers.
Drafting and/or editing study protocols, proposals, scientific abstracts, manuscripts, slide presentations, and posters as required.
Assisting in briefings and production of documents as appropriate to transfer knowledge of study products to customers in USAFSAM and Air Force at large.
Attending/supporting meetings related to expertise with government and civilian organizations, academia, and subject matter experts.
Providing studies and analysis support to 711 HPW researchers.
