About The Position

The primary role of the Maternal Health (MH) Epidemiologist is to support data collection, analysis, and evaluation activities to inform and strengthen maternal health initiatives. This role involves identifying, analyzing, and interpreting public health data to support ongoing program needs, guiding decision-making, and meeting reporting and deliverable requirements. The MH Epidemiologist manages and analyzes data from multiple sources to monitor maternal health outcomes, identify disparities, and assess the impact of innovation-focused programs. They are responsible for compiling, maintaining, and reporting data to support efforts aimed at improving maternal health outcomes. In addition to supporting surveillance activities, the MH Epidemiologist contributes to program evaluation by assessing effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement, and supporting continuous quality improvement efforts. The MH Epidemiologist will serve as the lead Epidemiologist for the Maternal Health Innovation (MHI) program. The MHI Program maintains and builds on state-level initiatives focused on expanding access to comprehensive care, enhancing state maternal health data capacity, and implementing innovative interventions to improve outcomes for populations disproportionately impacted by maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity (SMM).

Requirements

Master's degree in Epidemiology or closely related health field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

Expert proficiency in statistical software such as SAS and R, demonstrated through routine querying, transformation, and analysis of large epidemiologic datasets.
Advanced experience designing and executing epidemiologic and program‑evaluation studies using established scientific methodologies, including study design, sampling methods, and data interpretation.
Demonstrated skill in translating complex analytical results into clear, actionable insights tailored for non‑technical audiences across diverse program settings.
Extensive hands‑on experience managing databases and performing data manipulation using analytical tools and structured systems to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability of public health data.
Proficient use of data visualization platforms, including tools such as Tableau or Power BI, to develop clear, interpretable visual products that support maternal health reporting and decision‑making.

Responsibilities

Conduct epidemiologic analyses to monitor maternal health indicators and identify emerging trends.
Manage and maintain datasets from multiple surveillance and reporting systems to ensure data quality and usability.
Query, transform, and analyze data using statistical software such as SAS or R.
Interpret statistical results to produce clear, actionable findings that guide program decision‑making.
Develop epidemiologic reports, summaries, and presentations to meet internal, external, and grant‑related deliverable requirements.
Assess maternal health program effectiveness by conducting evaluation activities and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Support continuous quality improvement processes by providing data-driven recommendations.
Collaborate with program staff and partners to strengthen maternal health data capacity and support implementation of evidence‑based interventions.
Perform literature reviews to inform program strategies and ensure alignment with current scientific evidence.
Provide technical expertise in epidemiologic methods, data interpretation, and analytical tools to support maternal health initiatives.
