About The Position

The Utah Department of Health and Human Services is looking for an Epidemiologist to work under the Data, Research and Evaluation Team within the Office of Health Equity. This position involves conducting surveillance activities, investigating factors affecting community health, collecting, managing, analyzing, interpreting, and visualizing data, developing data tools and trainings, providing technical assistance to other DHHS programs, and developing reports and presentations for diverse audiences. The role emphasizes exceptional data analysis, evaluation, and statistical skills within a team environment.

Requirements

Masters degree with at least one to two years of work experience in epidemiology or data analysis and proficiency in SAS and/or R; OR have a total of 8 years combined work experience in analytical epidemiology or data analysis with proficiency in SAS and/ or R.
Advanced skills in statistical software like SAS and/or R.
Excellent qualitative and quantitative data analysis and statistical skills, including analytical epidemiology.
Strong technical writing skills.
Detail oriented.
Excellent oral communication and presentation skills.
High critical thinking skills.
Works well in a team environment.
Interest in health disparities.
Must successfully pass a criminal history check.

Responsibilities

Conduct surveillance activities, such as reviewing and assessing surveillance data needs, collecting, analyzing, evaluating, and communicating surveillance data.
Investigate factors that affect the health of communities, including social drivers of health.
Collect, manage, analyze, interpret, and visualize data and report on findings.
Develop a series of data tools and trainings.
Provide technical assistance to other DHHS programs on health equity and health disparities data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
Develop reports and conduct presentations for dissemination to diverse audiences.
