Public Health Program Manager I
About The Position
The Vermont Department of Health is seeking an experienced Public Health Program Manager to lead and oversee programs supporting substance use treatment programs. The role focuses on program development, compliance, and grant management to ensure high-quality treatment services for Vermonters. The Program Manager coordinates multiple activities across stakeholders and collaborates with community partners, service providers, and government agencies to strengthen substance use disorder service systems and improve health outcomes. Most work is performed in an office during standard state hours, with some required travel for site visits. Duties take place in both office and field settings. Private transportation must be available for required travel. Stress may arise when handling emotional situations involving program implementation, families, and allocation of program resources.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in public health, public administration, business administration, environmental science, emergency response, human services, a related social science field, or a health-related field, and at least one year of experience in public health or human services programmatic work, including experience leading a team or project; or
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, business administration, environmental science, emergency response, human services, a related social science field, or a health-related field, and at least two years of experience in public health or human services programmatic work, including experience leading a team or project; or
- At least two years of experience as a Public Health Specialist II; or
- At least one year of experience as a Public Health Specialist III.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Must have private transportation available for required travel.
- Must pass any background investigation applicable to the position.
