About The Position

The Tennessee Department of Health is seeking a Public Health Office Assistant to support administrative and clerical operations in a county health department medical office setting. This role focuses on patient registration, appointment scheduling, vital records, insurance verification, document management, and cash handling.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Two years of full-time customer service delivery and/or clerical/office experience.
  • Strong ability to manage patient information accurately across multiple systems.
  • Ability to follow health department guidelines, manuals, policies, and SOPs.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, customer service, and administrative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients accurately, verify insurance and immunization information, update contact details, and maintain accurate records across multiple systems.
  • Schedule patient appointments according to CHS Booking Guidelines and support efficient clinic workflow.
  • Provide Vital Records services, including reviewing birth and death certificate requests, issuing certificates, documentation, and receipts.
  • Scan and index required documents into the electronic system within established timelines.
  • Maintain cash box security, follow segregation-of-duties procedures, and report issues to leadership.
