About The Position

This role is for a Primary Care Public Health Office Assistant in Athens, Tennessee. The position is a contract role scheduled for Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The assistant will be responsible for a variety of administrative and customer service tasks to support clinic operations and patient care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of full-time customer service and/or clerical/office experience, or qualifying education substitution.
  • Valid Tennessee driver's license.
  • Ability to successfully complete required TBI background verification.
  • Strong computer, data-entry, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and manage patient appointments.
  • Perform patient registration, check-in, and check-out.
  • Collect and update patient demographic and contact information.
  • Inform patients about appointment requirements and program participation.
  • Review documentation for eligibility for applicable state and federal programs.
  • Enter and maintain patient information in health department information systems.
  • Use multiple computer applications for data entry and information retrieval.
  • Process payments, maintain the cash drawer, and balance transactions.
  • Obtain and assist with required insurance and medical information authorizations.
  • Gather and submit documentation for prior authorization requests.
  • Prepare forms and documentation to support efficient clinic operations.
  • Scan and index records into electronic medical record systems.
  • Conduct patient reminder and follow-up calls.
  • Assist with referral coordination and administrative activities.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
  • Provide professional customer service to patients, providers, and staff.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative work environment.
  • Travel to surrounding counties as required.
