The Public Health Nurse at VNA of Cape Cod is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and Standards of Practice in Massachusetts, functioning safely and competently within their knowledge and experience. Key duties include participating in local and state emergency preparedness teams, acting as a liaison with town health agents for communicable disease surveillance and immunization plans, and coordinating emergency call coverage. The role involves providing resources and education on infectious disease and emergency preparedness, performing clinical functions, and managing supplies for contracted health programs and clinics. The nurse promotes immunization and wellness through community outreach, delivers health education lectures, and provides primary nursing services to contracted Public Health departments, including safety assessments, well-being checks, and medication management. Communication with physicians and counseling patients/families on communicable disease, infection control, wellness education, and prevention guidelines are also critical. The position requires collaboration with the Public Health Manager for ordering supplies, participation in the agency's Infection Control Committee, and utilizing monitoring results to identify educational needs and improve patient care. On-call availability is required to meet agency and community needs, and the nurse must perform communicable disease responsibilities in compliance with MDPH requirements.
