This Public Health Nurse role involves ensuring compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and Standards of Practice in Massachusetts, functioning competently within the scope of knowledge and experience. The position requires participation in local and state emergency preparedness teams, acting as a liaison with town health agents for communicable disease surveillance, and initiating immunization plans, including coordinating emergency call coverage. The nurse will provide resources and education on infectious disease and emergency preparedness planning to towns and the agency. Responsibilities also include performing clinical functions and managing supplies for contracted health programs and clinics, promoting immunization and wellness through community outreach, and delivering health education lectures to community-based organizations. The Public Health Nurse will provide primary nursing services to contracted Public Health departments, which includes completing safety assessments for at-risk individuals, conducting well-being checks, managing medications, and making appropriate referrals. Communication with physicians and counseling patients and families on communicable disease, infection control, wellness education, and prevention guidelines are also key. The role involves ordering necessary equipment and supplies with the Public Health Manager, participating in the agency's Infection Control Committee as directed by the Public Health Wellness Manager, and utilizing monitoring and evaluation results to identify educational needs and improve patient care practices, making training recommendations to the HR Education Manager. Finally, the nurse must provide on-call availability in response to agency and community needs and perform communicable disease responsibilities in compliance with MDPH requirements, including reporting, surveillance, and case management per town contracts, along with other assigned duties.
