About The Position

The PTTC Prevention Fellowship Program aims to increase the number of prevention scientists in the field by developing and sustaining a well-trained cadre of professionals who understand and exemplify the principles and best practices of substance misuse prevention. The program prepares fellows for certification from the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) exam. Each fellow will be assigned to a prevention placement site for 26 hours per week, gaining exposure to daily operations. Training will be provided by the PTTC, with learning and capacity development activities coordinated by the Prevention Science Mentor and PTTC network staff. This is a field position based in Little Rock, Arkansas. The program runs from September 30, 2026, to September 29, 2027, with a potential for a one-year extension.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 48 months of related experience
  • Will accept 48 months of experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree to equal 96 months of related experience.

  • Work experience that includes community outreach, project coordination, strategic planning, program implementation, or evaluation within primary prevention.
  • Experience working or volunteering in community-based organizations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing responsive services for communities.
  • Preference is given to recent college graduates or early career professionals with experience in substance misuse prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Increase the number of prevention scientists working in the field.
  • Develop and sustain a well-trained and knowledgeable cadre of prevention professionals.
  • Ensure professionals understand and exemplify the principles and best practices of substance misuse prevention.
  • Prepare fellows to achieve certification from the IC&RC CPS exam.
  • Assign fellows to prevention placement sites for 26 hours/week.
  • Expose fellows to the day-to-day workings of the placement site.
  • Coordinate learning and capacity development activities with the Prevention Science Mentor and PTTC network staff.
