PTS Installation Technician - Tallahassee, FL
About The Position
The Publix Technology Services (PTS) Implementation Technician provides IT technical support in the Tallahassee, Florida area, primarily installing IT hardware in Publix retail stores. The role includes on-site visits and travel between store locations to perform technical tasks, with possible support in other geographic areas as needed. The technician installs, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on desktop computers, servers, laser and thermal printers, point-of-sale systems, barcode scanners, weighing devices, and networking systems. The team works variable shifts according to project and support needs, potentially including overnight, evening, early morning, or daytime work. Overnight work may occasionally continue for extended periods, and occasional Sunday night or holiday work may be required. The schedule is determined by the managing supervisor based on team needs.
Requirements
- Live in the Tallahassee area or surrounding area, or be willing to relocate there upon acceptance.
- Associate degree in information technology or equivalent technical experience.
- At least 1 year of PC or technical support experience.
- Basic understanding of IT hardware and industry standards.
- Basic understanding of Windows operating systems.
- Basic understanding of thermal and laser printing.
- Analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Cable management and troubleshooting skills.
- Computer and electronic equipment installation skills.
- Be at least 20 years of age.
- Have a valid driver's license and maintain an excellent driving record.
- Be able to work variable shifts based on project demands, including overnight, evening, early morning, and/or daytime shifts.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to climb and work on a ladder.
- Ability to crouch, kneel, and work in confined areas for extended periods.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
Nice To Haves
- Certifications in electronics or computer science, such as Cisco, A+, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, HP, or Lexmark certifications.
- At least 3 years of PC or technical support experience.
- Basic understanding of Active Directory.
- Experience using problem reporting and ticketing systems.
- Understanding of the Publix retail environment.
Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on IT hardware, including desktop computers, servers, laser and thermal printers, point-of-sale systems, barcode scanners, weighing devices, and networking systems.
- Provide support to Publix retail stores through on-site visits.
- Travel between store locations to perform technical tasks.
- Work variable shifts, including overnight, evening, early morning, and/or daytime shifts as project and support needs require.
- Provide support in other geographic areas when required.
