About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator for its Locate Services Division in Tallahassee, Florida. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This full-time employee role is for a self-motivated professional who can work independently, accurately locate underground utilities, and comply with 811 dig laws. The position includes an on-call rotation and requires willingness to work in all weather conditions, overtime, flexible schedules, and travel. Locators maintain company equipment and vehicles and communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions and travel.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently without supervision.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with applicable 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
• Document work, including photos and reports, using a mobile app.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
