About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator in Melbourne, Florida. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This full-time employee role offers independent work in an assigned territory, operational support, and modern locating technology. The position involves working in all weather conditions, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, and communicating with excavators, property owners, and team members. Participation in an on-call rotation is required.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently and without supervision.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately with paint and flags.
• Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
