About The Position

The City of Visalia is seeking a Utility Locator for its Public Works Department, working in the Traffic Division. The position reports directly to the Traffic Operations Supervisor. The Utility Locator identifies, locates, and marks City utilities in accordance with California government codes and City policies and procedures for USA tickets. The position requires fieldwork and may involve responding to emergency situations outside normal working hours, including nights, holidays, and weekends. Fieldwork includes exposure to weather and moderate to heavy physical activity.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
A valid California Driver’s License by the time of appointment.
Knowledge of locating City underground utilities.
Experience using underground utility locating devices and with underground construction.
Ability to read maps and drawings.
Basic computer software skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and a strong work ethic.
Moderate to heavy physical work, including prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting or carrying loads weighing 50 to 95 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Two years of experience in construction, maintenance, surveying, or utility line locating involving underground facilities is desired.

Responsibilities
