PT Outbound Freight Handler
About The Position
As a PT Outbound Freight Handler, you will load and unload freight onto and off of equipment, as well as assist in the recouping of damaged freight. This is a part-time position on the second shift. Responsibilities include preparing, sweeping, inspecting, and cleaning trailers before loading freight. You will use safe lifting techniques and appropriate freight handling equipment such as forklifts, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, and rollers to move, load, arrange, and unload freight. The role also involves weighing and dimensioning shipments, planning cube utilization and weight distribution, counting and inspecting freight condition, documenting shortages or damage, reviewing freight bills and manifests for special instructions and exceptions, checking labels and destination codes, verifying hazardous material information and placarding, and properly blocking and bracing freight to prevent shifting during transport.
Requirements
- Ability to satisfactorily pass a background check.
- Ability to satisfactorily pass an alcohol and drug test.
Nice To Haves
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prior experience as a Forklift Operator, Dock or Warehouse Worker, or Material Handler.
- Previously held a Forklift Certification.
Responsibilities

- Prepare, sweep, inspect and clean trailer(s) before loading freight.
- Use safe lifting techniques to properly load and unload freight.
- Select and use proper freight handling equipment (forklifts, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, rollers) to move, load, arrange, rearrange, and unload freight.
- Weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification, freight rating, and safe handling.
- Plan cube utilization and proper weight distribution when loading freight.
- Count and inspect the condition of freight, documenting any shortages or damage.
- Review freight bills for special instructions.
- Check manifests for existing exceptions and check the label and the destination code on manifests against freight bills.
- Check for special instructions, weight distributions on headloads, and check headloads against the freight bills when loading freight.
- Verify the hazardous material product description, determine any discrepancies in the paperwork, and verify proper placarding when loading hazardous material.
- Properly block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
