About The Position

Better Living Health and Community Services has an opening for a Psychological Assistant. This role provides support with daily security and wellness check calls to clients, assists with gathering documentation, data entry, analysis of activities, and communication with clients and staff from other departments. The position is funded by the Government of Canada under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program.

Requirements

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigrant and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Enrollment in or graduation from a post-secondary program (diploma or degree) in Social Services, Office Administration or a related field.
  • Successfully complete Vulnerable Sector Screening check.

  • Experience working with seniors and persons with disabilities is an asset.
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support with daily security and wellness check calls to clients.
  • Assist with gathering documentation, data entry, analysis of activities, and communication with clients and staff from other departments.
  • Provide information to clients about internal and external programs and services.
  • Respond to general inquiries for agency service information.
  • Follow up with voice messages.
  • Enter all call information into the client database system and other data entry as required.
  • Assist with updating the Resource Binder and creating meeting agendas and taking minutes.
  • Assist the Psychosocial team with goal-oriented programs and services for clients and families of all ages in the community and hospice residence programs.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, residents, families, staff, and volunteers.
  • Provide input to enable psychosocial staff to conduct assessments, develop care plans, or evaluate a client’s progress in relation to the care plan.
  • Develop a meaningful relationship with clients and residents.
  • Provide direction and support to hospice volunteers in programs if applicable.
  • Support client and resident documentation in the database.
  • Design, develop, deliver, and evaluate programs for hospice clients and residents.
  • Communicate effectively with the Psychosocial Team, clinical team, and volunteers.
  • Support and direct volunteers as needed in the various programs.

  • Perform the functions of the job description in compliance with the Health and Safety practices of the organization and in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Participate in the continuous quality improvement activities of the organization in order to advance a culture of quality and support ongoing compliance with CARF and HPCO Accreditation standards.
