About The Position

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the psychiatrist will assist the Program Manager with the monitoring of client treatment and clinical services. The psychiatrist will provide psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment; relevant education and training to the team; participate in program development; development of treatment plans; supervision of medication; and psychiatric and medical treatment policies and procedures. The primary focus of the position will be delivery of service to the clients both within and outside the office. Our ideal candidate is a passionate clinician looking to take their career to the next level. Part-time hours: 10-14 hours per week which includes work being done remotely and in-person. Fees to be discussed/negotiated with the Manager, People and Teams.

Requirements

  • Must be in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ontario
  • Member of Ontario Medical Association
  • Doctoral Degree (required)
  • Strong clinical assessment and treatment skills as proven based on previous experience in a similar role
  • Experience working with Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT), using the Recovery Approach
  • Ability and desire to work independently & collaboratively as part of our multidisciplinary team, ultimately keeping the client’s goals in mind
  • Charismatic and able to empower patients to make positive choices
  • Solid communication & interpersonal skills, resourcefulness, and self-motivated nature
  • Warm, approachable and client-centered professional

  • Affiliation with a hospital would be preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric services to the Assertive Community Transition Teams on-site or in the community in collaboration with CMHA staff.
  • Support on site, in person at any of the following offices: Vaughan Office (8271 Keele Street, Vaughan, ON L4K 1Z1), Markham Office (3601 Highway 7, Markham ON L3R 0M3), Alliston Office 35 (Victoria St E, Alliston ON L9R 1T3).
  • Work to be done remotely/virtual/by phone for support of clients and team members.
  • Be available for after hour telephone consultation, emergency and crisis consultation and facilitation of admission to hospital as required.
  • Provide psychiatric services to clients of the program both at the office as well as in the community.
  • Conduct psychiatric assessment including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination, diagnoses and present assessment results at team meetings and treatment planning meetings.
  • Assist with the comprehensive assessment including physical health; use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living and family structure and relationships.
  • Attend weekly clinical meetings on scheduled day(s).
  • Collaborate with the nursing team in assessment of client physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and coordinating medical treatments with psychiatric treatment.
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications and conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects and educate clients regarding psychotropic medications and side effects.
  • Provide or assist team members in the provision of support, education, and counseling to family members of clients to help them become knowledgeable about mental illness, so that they can collaborate in the treatment process, and assist in their family member’s progress.
  • Initiate and facilitate admission to hospital and be involved either directly or indirectly through regular communication and consultation with the attending psychiatrist, visit client in the hospital if necessary; and along with other team members, collaborate with the inpatient staff in planning and implementing treatment and discharge plans.
  • Create and maintain current client records. Will provide documentation on the following: psychiatric assessments; progress notes; and consultation and discharge notes and place these in the client file or input on CRMS as required.
  • Attendance at meetings and training will be at the discretion of the Program Manager.
