The Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children's Services (OCS) is recruiting for full-time Protective Service Specialist 1/2/3 in the Bethel office in Alaska. This position is responsible for Child Protection Services in the Family Services unit, the Investigations & Assessment unit, or as Generalist covering both. Travel duties are expected to be approximately four (4) times per month, including travel to communities and rural locations in Alaska. This case-carrying position involves investigating reports of child abuse and/or neglect, preparing intervention plans, gathering information about family dynamics, developing plans to ensure child safety, placing children with relatives or licensed foster homes when applicable, providing ongoing and/or in-home services, writing and submitting reports to Court, working closely with Tribal/Community Partners, and making referrals to other service providers. The Office of Children's Services is dedicated to a diverse and inclusive workforce where safety and wellbeing are paramount, with a mission to ensure the safety, permanency, and well-being of children by strengthening families, engaging communities, and partnering with Tribes. The first twelve months are a probationary training period with formal virtual and on-the-job training. Part-time telework within the duty station is an option upon eligibility. The position requires working after hours and on call, with overtime as an expectation. Relocation to Bethel is required, with move reimbursements available. Travel will include charter flights and state-owned boats to surrounding villages.
