About The Position

The Protection & Controls Commissioning Engineer will perform acceptance testing and pre-commissioning of protection and control (P&C) equipment in the factory using procedures set-forth by Systems Control and its utility partners. This role involves applying protective relay settings and performing tests to validate proper function, as well as applying RTU settings and verifying status, metering, and control functions. The engineer will troubleshoot and problem-solve when deficiencies are identified, perform testing procedures, and document results completely in accordance with internal and customer-specific requirements. Additionally, the role requires staying up-to-date with utility industry trends and practices, providing technical support to various departments, identifying potential process improvements, and notifying designers and engineers of deficiencies found during testing. The core function is to execute testing procedures that ensure elements of P&C design are properly applied and functioning as intended.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent education and experience.
  • NFPA and OSHA safety certified, or ability to become certified.
  • Commitment to continued education, training, and learning new tasks.
  • Familiar with some electric utility industry testing and documentation requirements.
  • General understanding of the operation, application, and testing of protective relays.
  • Understand the importance of safe work practices associated with the electric utility industry.
  • Ability to incorporate human performance tools into daily work practices.
  • Strong attention to detail with proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter able to work both in teams and individually with limited supervision.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Suite programs: Excel, Outlook, Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience testing electric utility P&C equipment preferred.
  • Familiar with RTU point assignments and checkout preferred.
  • Familiar with electric utility P&C schematic and wiring diagrams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute testing procedures that ensure elements of P&C design are properly applied and functioning as intended.
