About The Position

Deliver fair, timely outcomes on property claims while supporting customers through the moments that matter most. Hastings Insurance is seeking a Property Claims Representative (Desk Adjuster) to join our Claim team. This role is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving property claims from initial report through final settlement, all within a desk-based environment. You will play a key role in delivering a smooth and supportive claim experience, balancing customer service with sound decision-making and attention to detail. Location & Work Eligibility Requirements: This position is posted at our base claim representative level, with flexibility to consider more experienced property adjusters for alignment at a higher level based on background and expertise. Candidates newer to property claims should be located within a reasonable distance of our Hastings, Michigan headquarters to support in-person training and onboarding. Experienced property adjusters may be considered for remote work within our five-state footprint of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, or Wisconsin. Regardless of location, this role follows a standard Monday through Friday schedule during our core business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. What You’ll Do: Manage a personal caseload of property claims from initial assignment through resolution. Investigate losses by reviewing claim details, gathering documentation, and assessing coverage. Evaluate damages and determine appropriate settlement outcomes within authority. Communicate clearly and consistently with policyholders, agents, and vendors throughout the claim process. Review estimates, invoices, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness. Coordinate with contractors, adjusters, and other service providers as needed. Identify and pursue salvage and subrogation opportunities when applicable. Establish and maintain appropriate reserves throughout the life of each claim. Document all claim activity thoroughly and accurately within the claim system. Identify potential fraud indicators and refer as appropriate. Collaborate with internal partners across underwriting, loss control, and other departments. Participate in ongoing learning and development to build claim knowledge and expertise. What You’ll Bring: Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience in property claims adjusting preferred for more experienced candidates. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to make sound decisions and apply critical thinking in claim situations. Comfort managing multiple tasks and priorities in a structured environment. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
