About The Position

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting is seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant. This role will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting activities for a portfolio of residential properties, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance. Experience with HUD or low-income housing programs is a strong plus.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 2+ years of accounting experience (property or real estate industry preferred)
• Experience with residential property accounting strongly preferred
• Proficiency in advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
• Experience with property management/accounting systems such as Yardi, RealPage, MRI, or similar
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with HUD or affordable housing programs is a plus

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Perform bank and account reconciliations
• Manage full-cycle month-end close processes
• Analyze financial results and perform variance analysis
• Maintain general ledger integrity and supporting schedules
• Assist with audit preparation and respond to auditor inquiries
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements (including HUD, where applicable)
• Collaborate with property management teams to resolve accounting issues
