Working with the Engineering Services Department and reporting to the Manager, Engineering Projects, the Project Technologist II provides technical support for engineering and construction projects. This position assists with project administration, contract preparation, interpretation and application of engineering standards, and design review. The position also contributes to activities such as technical research, reporting, design support, asset inventory management and coordination of project tasks under the guidance of experienced staff. The Project Technologist II utilizes their strong understanding of engineering principles and municipal infrastructure practices, including drainage, road maintenance, and civil construction to support project management activities, review technical documents, assist with construction oversight, field visits, and participate in internal reviews and audits of civil infrastructure assets. This position will be responsible for overseeing projects that typically span one to two years and involve moderate budgets and moderate risk.

Requirements

  • A Post-Secondary Technology Diploma in Civil Engineering or another field related to Municipal Engineering.
  • Formal training in Project Management or Construction Management of Municipal Infrastructure design and construction.
  • Eligibility for registration with the Association of Science & Engineering Technology (ASET) as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience working as a municipal technologist including project management of capital roads, water, wastewater, stormwater, and other related infrastructure projects.
  • Strong administrative, written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated organizational, technical, interpersonal and project coordination skills.
  • Understanding of developing contracts and specifications along with experience in applying contacts and specifications during management and oversight of municipal engineering projects.
  • Ability to contribute to discussions and assist in resolving issues under guidance.
  • Demonstrates collaborative problem-solving skills in routine project tasks.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to primarily work in-person at Parkland County Centre – 53109A HWY 779, Parkland County, AB.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license and current, satisfactory driver’s abstract provided upon hire.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required upon hire, excluding candidates under the age of 18 and current Parkland County employees.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • A Professional Technologist (P. Tech) is considered an asset.
  • Some database and AutoCAD experience would be preferred.
