The Project Manager (PM) independently assumes primary responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating, and delivering broad-scope project activities throughout the project life cycle, from initiation through handoff to the customer. The PM is accountable for achieving project objectives on time, within budget, and in accordance with Mayo Clinic project management methodologies and standards. The role may lead one or more medium-to-large projects of department- or site-level strategic importance, with moderate-to-high risk, interdependencies, interrelationships, and costs. The PM manages established budgets and participates in creating and tracking project budgets, adhering strictly to department and institutional budget guidelines. With minimal supervision, the PM facilitates problem-solving, decision-making, and change management, taking prudent actions to meet project objectives. The role applies project management experience, negotiation skills, entrepreneurial thinking, and strong business acumen to work across diverse functions and build relationships. It may involve matrix supervision and evaluation of staff from other departments, divisions, and contractors or vendors, as well as direct or indirect reports. The PM demonstrates a project-focused culture and advises staff on project management practices, methods, and standards. Additional duties may be assigned by the immediate supervisor. Agile methodology is important to this role. The PM may monitor scrum processes and meetings, improve efficiency, motivate the team, and advocate for changes that support quality and timeliness. Team leadership may include guiding teams in Agile practices and values; assessing team or organizational maturity and coaching sustainable improvement; removing or escalating impediments; creating a safe, trusting environment; facilitating work without coercion or dictating assignments; facilitating discussion, decisions, and conflict resolution; and supporting and educating the Product Owner, particularly in creating and refining the backlog. This is a hybrid position requiring onsite work three days per week. The candidate must live within 100 miles of the Mayo Clinic Rochester Campus.
