The Project Manager (PM) independently assumes primary responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating, and delivering broad-scope project activities throughout the entire project life cycle, from initiation through handoff to the customer. The PM works to achieve project objectives on time, within budget, and in accordance with Mayo Clinic project management methodologies and standards. The PM may lead one or multiple medium-to-large projects with department- or site-level strategic importance. These projects may involve moderate-to-high risk and risk interdependencies, multiple relationships, and moderate-to-high costs. The position manages established budgets and participates in creating and tracking project budgets, with strict adherence to department and institutional budget guidelines. The PM facilitates problem-solving, decision-making, and change management, taking prudent action to accomplish objectives under minimal supervision. The role applies negotiation skills and entrepreneurial thinking, strong business acumen, and relationship-building skills across diverse functions. It may involve matrix supervision and evaluation of staff from other departments, divisions, and contractors or vendors, and may include direct and indirect reports. The PM demonstrates a project-focused culture and advises staff on project management practices, methods, and standards. Additional duties may be assigned by the immediate supervisor. Agile methodologies are important to this role. The PM may monitor scrum processes and meetings, work to increase efficiency and motivate the team, and advocate for changes that support quality and timeliness. Team leadership may include guiding teams in Agile practices and values; assessing team or organizational maturity and coaching toward higher levels at a sustainable pace; removing impediments or guiding the team to do so and escalating when appropriate; creating a trusting and safe environment; facilitating work without coercion, assignment, or dictation; facilitating discussion, decision-making, and conflict resolution; and supporting and educating the Product Owner, particularly in creating and refining the backlog. This is a hybrid position requiring on-site work three days per week. The employee must live within 100 miles of the Mayo Clinic Rochester Campus.
