The Project Manager (PM) independently assumes primary responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating, and delivering broad-scope project activities throughout the project life cycle, from initiation through handoff to the customer. The PM ensures objectives are achieved and projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with Mayo Clinic project management methodologies and standards. The PM may lead one or multiple medium-to-large projects with department- or site-level strategic importance. Projects may involve moderate-to-high risk, interdependencies, several relationships, and moderate-to-high costs. The role manages established budgets, participates in creating and tracking project budgets, and adheres to departmental and institutional budget guidelines. With minimal supervision, the PM facilitates problem-solving, decision-making, and change management, and takes prudent actions to accomplish project objectives. The role calls for strong business acumen, negotiation skills, entrepreneurial thinking, and the ability to work across diverse functions and build relationships. It may involve matrix supervision and evaluation of staff from other departments, divisions, and contractors or vendors; the PM may also have direct and indirect reports. The PM demonstrates a project-focused culture and advises staff on project management practices, methods, and standards. Additional functions may be assigned by the immediate supervisor. Agile methodology use is important. The PM may monitor scrum processes and meetings, improve team efficiency, motivate the team, and advocate for changes that support quality and timely delivery. Agile team leadership includes guiding teams in Agile practices and values, assessing team or organizational maturity and coaching toward higher levels sustainably, removing or helping teams remove impediments and escalating when appropriate, creating a safe and trusting environment, facilitating work without coercion or dictating, facilitating discussion and conflict resolution, and supporting and educating the Product Owner on backlog creation and refinement. This is a hybrid position requiring three onsite days per week. The employee must live within 100 miles of the Mayo Clinic Rochester Campus.
