About The Position

The Project Manager will be responsible for managing new projects from initial documentation, schedules, and budgets through to completion. This role involves coordinating resources, managing project costs, overseeing field operations, ensuring safety compliance, and reporting on project status. The Project Manager will establish and maintain relationships with clients and vendors, ensure accurate data entry, and lead project teams to meet or exceed project goals.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in underground utility construction.
  • OSHA 30 required.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and the coordination of manpower and resources.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English.
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish your work.
  • Communicate professionally with people outside the company, representing the company to customers, the public, the government, general contractors, and electrical contractors representatives.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in underground dry utilities and the electrical industry.
  • Must have experience working with contract documents such as contract drawings, subcontracts, contract addendums, specifications, and change orders.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Office Systems including MS Word / PowerPoint / Outlook and Publisher.
  • Advanced skill level with MS Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares projects in their entirety, from initial documentation, schedules, and budgets to viable timetables and projected finish dates.
  • Prepares documentation required for project start, including Bill of Materials, vendor quotes, insurance, and subcontractor agreements.
  • Attends hand-off meetings and ensures the accuracy of Pre-Construction bids for quality control, project forecast, and reasonability.
  • Establishes professional working relationships with clients and vendors and confirms project start dates.
  • Confirms that all necessary information such as PO details, phase codes, and contract items are entered into the company system accurately and timely.
  • Confirms that all Blue Stakes are updated/renewed as required by maintaining communication with the field superintendent/foreman.
  • Provides all necessary documentation for utility markings to the field for confirmation.
  • Allocates responsibility to field and office teammates as needed.
  • Prepares all members of their crew in advance of starting any project with correct documentation, site-specific requirements, and expectations.
  • Selects appropriate and able crew to best optimize job labor time and abilities.
  • Hires, promotes, and disciplines field and supporting staff for proper project execution.
  • Confirms cost-effective practices of material coordination, rented equipment, and aggregate deliveries and pick-ups.
  • Proposes new vendors or subcontractors when appropriate and follows procedures in securing said firms.
  • Obtains and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Practices detailed analysis of timecard submittals and approves within an appropriate time frame.
  • Forecasts each job to efficiently use and schedule their crew ahead of time and submits any paperwork necessary for scheduling changes.
  • Approves/Rejects invoices daily from materials orders, aggregates, equipment rentals, etc., in a timely manner while ensuring accuracy.
  • Forecasts monthly billings for all active projects by pulling correct reports and analyzing data.
  • Identifies and requests change order needs from clients.
  • Bills clients accurately and by following procedures.
  • Estimates, establishes, and updates budgets and breakdowns to ensure project goals are met or exceeded.
  • Understands basic revenue models, P/L, cost-to-completion projections and makes decisions accordingly.
  • Responsible for the safe keeping of project documentation and interfacing between departments.
  • Allocates correct phasing to purchases to ensure accurate project expenditures.
  • Confirms all equipment and materials are to standard and health is maintained through daily equipment logs and other resources.
  • Confirms the site, especially the excavation and adjacent areas, are continuously monitored and up to standard through daily Trench Logs and other resources.
  • Tracks and reports hours and expenses daily, verifying information through proper documentation.
  • Confirms the accuracy of daily As-builts and progress prints by visitation and/or daily meetings with Superintendent.
  • Informs the Construction Manager daily of the project’s progress through project trackers, As-builts, and other resources carried out in operations meetings.
  • Leads proposal efforts effectively, including completion of project within projected scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Identifies business development opportunities as they relate to a specific project and/or current clients.
  • Attends the start of each project on site with the assistance of the Superintendent.
  • Walks the sites with Superintendent and Foreman regularly for project updates and further coordination to achieve goals.
  • Attends all required orientations and/or safety meetings prior to any site visit.
  • Upholds safe practices on and off the job site in accordance with company policy and OSHA regulations.
  • Upholds leadership role and facilitates team and client meetings effectively.
  • Holds regular status meetings with the project team from the field to the office.
  • Completes a minimum of 4 site visits a week.
  • Inspects each job site to ensure safe practices, efficient use of time and resources, and overall client satisfaction.
  • Completes and submits a Construction Site Inspection upon every visit.
  • Attends required monthly safety training provided by Premier Risk Management.
  • Frequently renews Blue Stakes tickets in accordance with Arizona 811 standards in an accurate and detailed manner to avoid line strikes and near misses.
  • Follows all policies and procedures in the case of any incidences deemed an emergency or other.
  • Analyzes and submits reports such as Job Costing, JHA, and others not listed.
  • Completes and goes over 9x9 forms with Superintendent after field visits.
  • Oversees all Incident Reports involving crew and/or site.
  • Updates Crew Matrix periodically.
  • Updates the Job Cost Report weekly.
  • Ongoing Project Report is updated and presented weekly to Operations Manager.
  • Provides project audits, and recovery plans and communicates plan with the foreman, superintendent, and Operations Manager.
  • Daily review of Trackers.
  • Daily update of As-builts.
  • Daily employee timecard reviews and approvals.
  • Daily invoice review and approvals.
  • Daily Trench Log Reviews.
  • Weekly review and update of Job Costs.
  • Weekly review and update of billing projection sheet.
  • As needed review and update of active job matrix.
