About The Position

Power your future with Qualus as a Project Manager on our Engineering team. The Project Manager at Qualus is responsible for leading and managing advisory, engineering, engineer-procure (EP), and engineer-procure-construct (EPC) projects with a focus on high-voltage electrical substations, transmission lines, telecommunications, renewable energy (solar, geothermal, wind), electric utilities and large load industrial projects. This includes managing all activities related to project scope, schedule, cost/budget, quality, communications, resources, procurement, and risk elements to optimize client service, quality and financial performance on large, complex and challenging projects. This role also involves cross-disciplinary coordination, client relationship management, and mentoring junior staff. Occasional travel, including overnight stays, is required.

Requirements

  • The Senior Project Manager is expected to bring an advanced level to knowledge of everything involved to complete a project design from start to finish.
  • Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering, Electrical or Civil Engineering is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in utility-scale electrical projects, including substation and transmission design or related technical area.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems, utility interconnection requirements, renewable energy, and large load industrial infrastructure.
  • Strong competence in applying theories and principals involved in project management
  • Strong work ethic, common sense approach, and high attention to detail.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to work under pressure and manage shifting priorities.
  • Excellent computer skills, Microsoft Office, and proficient with scheduling (MS Project or Primavera P6 preferred)
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and demands
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check satisfactory to Qualus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage complex engineering projects across substation design, transmission, telecommunications, renewable energy interconnections, electric utilities and large load industrial facilities.
  • Work with project teams including engineers, designers, and subcontractors in the coordination of project documents and drawings, ensuring schedules are met.
  • Manage project scope, budget, scheduling, and change control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support procurement and construction activities, including managing site construction managers and procurement teams.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with our external business partners.
  • Support proposal development including scope definition, cost estimating, schedule creation, and vendor quote evaluation.
  • Coordinate overall conceptual design plans in the initial development phase of large load, renewable energy and battery storage projects specific to utility interconnections and/or non-grid connections.
  • Coordinate environmental permitting and land rights as needed with clients, agencies and staff.
  • Assist clients with competitive bidding processes for steel structures, long lead electrical equipment and substation construction activities.
  • Mentor less experienced staff on a wide range of technical and project management best practices and competencies.
  • Participate in internal process improvements and help to develop Qualus's project control systems and standards.
  • Work with large load developers, renewable energy developers and other clients with support specific to schedules and cost estimates.
  • Prepare and maintain project schedules as needed and coordinate with team members and clients on schedule impacts.
  • Track budgets, prepare regular project status reports, and conduct team/client meetings.
  • Generally, keep management appraised of project status and report as needed to clients, agencies, and team members. This often includes facilitating monthly or bi-weekly team meetings and issuing meeting notes.
  • Occasional travel (1–2 times per month) with overnight stays required.
