Project Manager - Utilities Coordinator

About The Position

Terravanta is seeking an experienced Utilities Coordinator to manage and coordinate utility-related activities for transportation, rail, and infrastructure projects throughout Northern California. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with PG&E, SMUD, and other regional utility providers, along with a strong understanding of wet and dry utility systems, utility relocations, new service installations, and temporary power solutions. This role requires an organized professional who can effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, serve as the primary liaison between utilities and project stakeholders, and maintain strong relationships with utility agencies to ensure successful project delivery.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of utility coordination experience, preferably supporting transportation, rail, or public infrastructure projects in Northern California.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with PG&E, SMUD, and regional utility agencies.
  • Strong knowledge of wet utilities (water, sewer, storm drain) and dry utilities (electric, gas, telecommunications, fiber).
  • Proven experience coordinating: Utility relocations, New power installations, Temporary power services, Utility conflict resolution.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Established industry relationships with utility providers and public agencies highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting major rail, transit, highway, roadway, or transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with Caltrans, transit agency, and municipal utility coordination processes.
  • Understanding of utility permitting, easements, and right-of-way requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate utility activities for transportation, rail, roadway, and infrastructure projects.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between project teams, transportation agencies, rail agencies, and utility companies.
  • Manage utility relocation efforts, conflict identification, and resolution throughout project lifecycles.
  • Coordinate new power service installations, temporary power requirements, and utility upgrades.
  • Facilitate permitting, approvals, design reviews, and utility agreements.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with PG&E, SMUD, telecommunications providers, water districts, sewer agencies, and other public and private utilities.
  • Track utility schedules, risks, budgets, and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Lead utility coordination meetings and ensure timely communication among stakeholders.
  • Support project teams in utility investigations, site assessments, and constructability reviews.
  • Monitor compliance with utility standards, agency requirements, and project schedules.
